Country in the Country 20120722

It's Country in the Country for Sunday, July 22, 2012.

Tonight's show is rated NC-16  -- no children under 16 are permitted to call. So bring 15 of your friends.
It's The Nine Days, so your phone calls are front and center on tonight's show with no qualifying questions. We began with some Country Yossi cover music: Lev Tahor's a capella recording of "Deaf Man In The Shteeble."
Rabbi Chaim Prussman phoned in with the Beth Shifra report in the first hour, then Dov Shurin had his moment to shine with the latest news from Israel in the second hour, not once but twice! Also in the second hour, Rabbi Moshe Meir Weiss graced us with his in-studio presence to tell us all about Siyum HaShas 2012. Will we see you there? Remember, no show next week because it's Tish'a B'Av, so have an easy fast, and we''ll see you in a fortnight -- or in two weeks, if you're not a British aristocrat.

It's Country in the Country for Sunday. July 15, 2012.

Warning: Tonight's show is suitable for adults only -- as opposed to all the other shows which are barely suitable for anyone!
We began tonight's show with A.K.A. Pella's "Greatest Medley Ever."
Then it was an onslaught of shailes interrupted only briefly for a little more a capella music: Lev Tahor's "The Ninth Man."
Then the pattern continued: More shailes, more a capella music. This time, it was Lev Tahor's "Shomer Yisroel."
Suddenly, in walked the pattern-breaker, in the form of Dov Shurin, with the latest news from Israel.
Then again with the shailes. And again with the a capella music. A.K.A. Pella's "Yuffing Else Matters."
More shailes, more a capella music: "In A'Vinkele" by Lev Tahor (feat. Rivie Schwebel).
Then a bissel more shailes, and that about wrapped it up. Join us again next week, because we seem to be coming apart!

It's Country in the Country for Sunday, July 8, 2012.

In observance of today's fast of Tzom Tammuz, we began with a special hour-long Divrei Torah from Rabbi Moshe Meir Weiss of the Agudas Yisroel of Staten Island on the subject of Bullying. Then we kicked off hour 2 with a perennial favorite Country Yossi cover version: Lev Tahor's a capella recording of  "Deaf Man In The Shteeble."
Then, the fun really began as the post-fast shailes came out to play, as did the Grand Prize Winners! We also heard from Rabbi Chaim Prussman and the Beth Shifra report. What, that's not enough for you? Come back next week for two more hours you'll never get back!

Country in the Country 20120701

It's Country in the Country for Sunday, July 1, 2012.

Tonight, the first Country in the Country program of the 2012 Summer season descended upon an unsuspecting public. To soften the blow, Country Yossi dispensed with the usual call-in Shaile format for the first hour, in favor of a selection of Country Yossi and the Shteeble-Hoppers favorites. Well, they're Country Yossi's favorites, at least. You might not like them at all. But if you do, here they are, including links to buy them for your very own:
  • Hello Mameh
  • Sing, Zadie, Sing
  • A Boy Named Zlateh
  • Oh Yankel
  • Peel One More Potato (For The Kugel)
  • Chicken Soup
  • I Am A Sheep
  • Lukshin Kugel Eater
  • The Cover Of The Jewish Press
  • When Moshiach Comes

We also heard The Beth Shifra report. And we had a few technical glitches here and there, just so you know it's a genuine Country Yossi production. And then in Hour Two, the calls and the shailes came fast and furious -- the rooster crowed fast and the callers were furious! And, there was no shortage of Grand Prize Winners! Plus we had an informational visit from Dov Shurin with the latest news from Israel,  and an inspirational visit from Rabbi Moshe Meir Weiss of the Agudas Yisroel of Staten Island. And a little more Country Yossi music: "One Daf A Day."
We'll see you next week.
